FED:Central Coast police aim to flush grubs
SYDNEY, April 6 AAP - Three men have been caught on security cameras defecating on
Central Coast railway stations.
In one incident, two men dropped their trousers and did their business in a ticket
machine at Ourimbah Railway station on Saturday, February 12.
In another, a man defecated on the stairs at Wyee Railway Station on Sunday, January 30.

that will help us track down these grubs," Insp Wellfare said.
Police have so far been unsuccessful in their efforts to identify and locate the offenders.
They are now seeking public help and have released images of three males they believe
may be able to assist them with inquiries.

FED:Boat death toll could rise: Gillard=5
The prime minister said it would take some time to establish exactly what happened.
It was expected there would be a West Australian coronial investigation which would
cover all the events.
There also would be a criminal investigation under Australia's people-smuggling laws.
"There will be an immediate review carried out by Customs and Border Protection," Ms
Gillard said.
"This will involve an initial collection of facts and the initial assessment identifying
any immediate action required.
"The information from that assessment will be provided to the Australian Federal Police
in the context of their investigation and their anticipated report to the coroner."
Ms Gillard said it was vital that every fact about the tragic incident was known to
decision-makers and the general public.

SA:Man wanted in Greece appears in SA
ADELAIDE, Aug 9 AAP - A man wanted in Greece over his alleged involvement in a drug
operation will face an extradition hearing in Adelaide in October.
Vasilios Konstantinou, 54, appeared before the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday
when the court was asked to delay his case.
Defence counsel Michael Jandy said he needed time to liaise with his client over his
ability to continue to provide instructions and to retain senior counsel.
The Hellenic Republic previously issued a warrant for Konstantinou's return, alleging
he participated in a joint criminal enterprise with six other people to cultivate cannabis
in October 2005.
It also alleged he participated in a joint enterprise to harvest and possess cannabis.
In each instance the quantity of the drug involved was listed in court documents as
"substantial".
In earlier bail hearings, Konstantinou said he did not know he was wanted by police
when he left Greece in 2005.
In court on Monday, Magistrate Alf Grasso continued Konstantinou's bail and adjourned
his case to September 15 for mention and also set down one day for a hearing on October
18.
Mr Grasso also gave the parties leave to bring the case on to revise those dates if necessary.

Qld: Banks' mortgage fire sales to be banned
By Jessica Marszalek
BRISBANE, Dec 3 AAP - Lenders will be outlawed from conducting mortgage fire sales
in Queensland in a move to protect the growing numbers of defaulting homeowners.
Premier Anna Bligh announced laws would be fast-tracked through parliament on Wednesday
to prevent financial institutions intentionally selling repossessed properties at below
market value.
Ms Bligh said the practice saw banks accepting offers to cover their own costs, which
left the home owner and their family with little or no equity to start again.
"The only thing worse than the prospect of losing your home is the concern that your
financial institution could sell your property quickly and at below market value just
to cover outstanding debts, leaving you with nothing," Ms Bligh said.
Currently the Property Law Act requires mortgagees to take reasonable care to ensure
the property is sold at market value.
The new laws will require lenders to advertise the sale, obtain an independent valuation,
maintain the property and sell it by auction unless another means is appropriate.
Lenders who fail to follow these requirements will face fines of up to $20,000.
Homeowners will also be able to take civil court action, as they were able to do in the past.
Ms Bligh said it was timely to introduce the legislation now, with mortgage defaults
jumping dramatically in the past four months and the Gold Coast suburb of Helensvale the
most mortgage-stressed suburb in the country.
"As we go into very difficult financial times there will be people who are unscrupulous,
who seek to make something out of other people's misfortunes," she said.
"That's why we've rushed this legislation through."
Meanwhile, Ms Bligh said she was outraged that Westpac and ANZ banks had not passed
on the full 100 basis point cut to official rates handed down by the Reserve Bank of Australia
(RBA) on Tuesday.
The Commonwealth Bank and National Australia Bank passed on the full cut, but Westpac
(0.80) and ANZ (0.83) were less generous.
"Every single one of their customers deserves an explanation," Ms Bligh said.
"For many, a one per cent cut could be the difference between making the mortgage or
not and they have every right to be angry."

Football programs are not the same as 30 years ago
Football programs are not the same as 30 years ago
With all of the negative calls to Quickly about Coach Wally McCormack and the state of the Hobart football program, I feel it's time for the readers to hear another opinion. It seems the negative comments in Quickly outweigh the positive.
In all football programs, coaches of the 21st century face challenges that coaches of 50, 40 or even 30 years ago did not face. There are distractions such a video games, Internet, BlackBerrys, text messaging, Twittering. On top of that are the age-old distractions of divorce, loss of employment, teen pregnancy, having to work after school to help support the family and other personal issues. Hobart is not the only program at issue.
People do not stop to realize Hobart and other parts of the region are facing a changing demographic. Where family life was stable and families did not move from the region, the economy has forced families to relocate. The jobs at the local mills, railroads and other smokestack industries have been reduced or even abolished. People relocate more often now than was the norm even 15 years ago. Numerous families are unemployed, with chances of future employment bleak.
The glory days of the 1970s and '80s are history; we live in the present. People get spoiled when programs are successful and are not satisfied when these same programs are in a rebuilding phase. Winning is important, but molding future citizens into responsible adults is also important. Wally McCormack has to be coach, teacher, counselor, surrogate father and disciplinarian on a daily basis. He has an excellent staff that backs his efforts, all working seven days a week. Let's get behind our coach and team, Go, Brickies.

Catholic church went too far in hospital case
I have read where the Catholic church has expressed its arrogance in denouncing St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center of Phoenix for violating the church's teaching in a November 2009 case, calling surgery involving an 11-week pregnancy "an abortion."
It was revealed the patient suffered from pulmonary hypertension that could limit the functioning of her heart and lungs, hospital officials said, adding that allowing the pregnancy to continue could have exacerbated the conditions.
As a result, the Catholic bishop of Phoenix stripped the local hospital of Catholic affiliation after it ended a woman's pregnancy to save her life.
In essence, the church overruled the medical professional's opinion.
In the past, the church had some questionable decisions: the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition and, recently, its narrow-minded view on abortion. The question arises, "Why have people been leaving the church?"
Recently, one positive from the church came from a committee of bishops, which declared that abortion should only be considered but not be the main issue in voting. Let's hope this decision opens the eyes of the hierarchy of the church.

Tea party members should pay for their education
A TV item said the newly elected right-wing candidates in Congress will hold instructional classes on the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, and the U.S. Bill of Rights. These classes will be conducted by a Supreme Court justice with reportedly right-wing views. The centrist and left wing view will
most probably not be brought forth, which would be "fair and balanced" as well as complete! These new members of Congress told the voters they were ready to serve and legislate a new direction for the United States. Now they want instruction on what their duties, limitations and procedures are.
This group stated they would eliminate "government waste, and excessive spending as well as wasting time." It would seem they should pay for this education out of their personal income, and for all instructors, classrooms, texts, associated needs and expenses. These classes should also be conducted on their personal time.
