FED:Boat death toll could rise: Gillard=5

The prime minister said it would take some time to establish exactly what happened.

It was expected there would be a West Australian coronial investigation which would
cover all the events.

There also would be a criminal investigation under Australia's people-smuggling laws.

"There will be an immediate review carried out by Customs and Border Protection," Ms
Gillard said.

"This will involve an initial collection of facts and the initial assessment identifying
any immediate action required.

"The information from that assessment will be provided to the Australian Federal Police
in the context of their investigation and their anticipated report to the coroner."

Ms Gillard said it was vital that every fact about the tragic incident was known to
decision-makers and the general public.
