Qld: Minister to champion POW compo push
Federal Veterans Affairs Minister BRUCE SCOTT has vowed to champion a compensation
scheme for former prisoners of war.
About 3,000 POWs are expected to receive $25,000 each as part of a $67.5 million compensation
package to be announced in next month's federal budget.
Mr SCOTT, who attended Anzac Day services in Brisbane today, says he's sought a proposal
for ex-service organisations.
He wouldn't speculate on the size or extent of the compensation package.
President of the Ex-Prisoners of War Association of Australia FRED HODEL says the new
initiative will be warmly welcomed by veterans and their families.
